1. In order to Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS you will need the folder "redsn0w_win_0.9.6b6" which contains the custom firmware "iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore" on your desktop;
verify that the version is 4.2.1 (8C148a) & the Modem Firmware is 06.15.00 (this is the baseband);
if you do not have the folder "redsn0w_win_0.9.6b6", just email me and i will send you a copy;
2. shut-off your iPhone;
3. double-click "redsn0w" on your desktop; browse "iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore" then open; processing firmware will start;
4. click "yes" if you have newer model;
5. click "next"
6. check "Just boot tethered right now";
7. click "next"
8. now plug in your device that is off;
9. device will light up with Apple logo;
10. click "next"
11. press simultaneously POWER button & HOME button;
12. you will be prompted to release POWER button after 9 secs;
13. you will be prompted to release HOME button after 12 secs;
14. installation will complete; press FINISH;

the folder "redsn0w_win_0.9.6b6" that i'm using for Jailbreak is 415MB;
ReplyDeleteiOS version 4.2.1 doesn't allow a hard reboot of your 3GS, otherwise it will go back to a 'fresh' device; so if you're travelin, find a way to charge it before it's fully drained;
